How to End the Diet Cycle

Have you seen this article about fad diets you should absolutely never try?  From the laughable eating jars of baby food, to the dangerous purposefully infecting yourself with tapeworms, it’s clear that people are willing to turn off their brains and try anything in the hopes of losing weight.

It’s sad that this article even needs to exist.  Many people are obsessed by weight loss, but not many are very successful, so they keep trying new strategies that are ultimately unproven and unsustainable.

Imagine a diet where you eat whatever you want, and as much as you want. What did you picture?  Was it incredibly gluttonous and unhealthy?  Probably. You want to be healthy, but when I asked you to imagine eating what you want, you pictured yourself eating junk!

ATTENTION: MENTAL SHIFT REQUIRED! When people do things that are different from what they want to do, it indicates that they need to make a significant mental shift. This kind of shift does not happen overnight.  It does not happen without some work. You will need to:
  • Stop stressing about food
  • Be consistently mindful of why you are eating
  • Make a habit of listening to what your body is really telling you about how much and what kinds of food it needs
  • Send your body cues about how healthy you want to eat
THE BEAUTY OF INTUITIVE EATING: This is a long-term process, but it is so worth it!  Once you make this mental shift and become more in tune with your body’s wants and needs, you can adopt the diet I described above!  You can eat whatever you want, whenever you want, and as much as you want. Not only that, but you will then:
  • Be healthier
  • Achieve your ideal weight
  • Maintain your ideal weight
  • Maintain a healthier blood profile
  • Love your food
  • Love your body
Like many diets, this may sound too good to be true.  Let me assure you, if you’re willing to put the work into changing the way you see your body and your food, it’s not!  As your first step of the journey, use this exercise: The next time you are about to eat, pause for a moment.  Think about why you decided to have something to eat.  Take a note of that reason. Eating can be a guilt free, anxiety free, joyful experience!
